Cambridge Temperature Concepts

Cambridge Temperature Concepts (CTC) was started by postgraduates of Cambridge University in 2006. Having won a number of funding competitions and attracted Angel investment, it is developing technology to continuously monitor human core body temperature. This information can be used to accurately predict ovulation cycles to help couples trying to conceive.

The Challenge

The challenge was to design the mechanical and ergonomic aspects of the product, including the casework, display and user-interface. The product will be used daily by women to measure their core body temperature. It had to be made desirable and attractive to the target market, setting it apart from other fertility monitors.

Approach

In a very fast moving project, we held an intensive brainstorm session together with CTC so that we could fully understand the requirements and share ideas freely. Once a design angle had been chosen, multiple embodiments were worked up and the strongest presented to the client.

The Result

With a strong design achieved, the CTC fertility monitor has caught the attention of local press and is now undergoing a final round of trials. eg technology continue to work with CTC on future developments.
