IDMoS Dental Systems was an AIM listed medical device company with technology for detecting early stage dental caries.

The Challenge

To design a sensor system which must be manufactured in line with the required regulatory standards, and to be used in conjunction with an instrument being developed by a third party.

Approach

The main design challenges in the project were:

• A high volume, highly cost and performance critical, disposable
• A re-usable clinicians handpiece with exacting performance, usability and reliability targets

To provide step-change solutions for both technical and usability challenges a wide array of prototyping techniques and methods were needed at every stage of development.

The Result

A fit for purpose 510(k) approved and CE marked medical device for which eg technology selected manufacturing partners and subsequently managed technology transfer.
