Inditherm

Inditherm has established itself as a cost-effective provider of neonatal warming systems. However, increasingly it has been asked to provide a more complete solution to the neonatal environment in the form of a neonatal cot.

The Challenge

To design and develop an electrically height-adjustable neonatal cot which will both compliment Inditherm's established Cosytherm warming mattress and offer a complete neonatal system to prospective buyers.

Approach

A range of concept embodiments were generated by hand from the Product Specification. Concepts exhibiting similar component layouts were grouped, reviewed and combined to create optimum solutions for that layout. These concepts were then input into CAD where they were scaled and additional detailing was added. Client feedback provided a preferred aesthetic and functional solution. The design was further developed to incorporate off the shelf components, standard material grades and cross sections and the small scale production methods that would be used for the low initial volumes required. Working prototypes were built and rigorously tested to applicable British Standards.

The Result

Our partnership with Inditherm delivered the launch of the Cosycrib at the Medica Exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany in 2008. The whole process from idea conception to product launch took just over 9 months.
