Smart Holograms

Smart Holograms is a spin out company from the University of Cambridge which is pioneering a new technology ("sensor holograms") to develop innovative, non-invasive and multi-analytic diagnostics for a variety of applications.

The Challenge

Smart Holograms needed a demonstrator for their novel detector technology to exemplify its potential and attract investment.

Approach

eg technology developed a low cost optical and micro fluidics system comprising of a hand-held diagnostic instrument & disposable microfluidic chip. Industrial design skills were used to integrate the drive electronics and functional components into an elegant handheld package while in parallel developing software to display the user interface.

The Result

We designed and manufactured a technology demonstrator and injection-moulded disposable microfluidic chip to support next stage funding for Smart Holograms. The process took three months from a blank sheet of paper to delivery.
