The gulf between innovation and a market-ready product is vast, complex and requires a deep understanding of engineering, human factors, market insight and regulatory requirements. This is a gulf that unfortunately swallows many innovations. However, with the right expertise, many ground-breaking, innovative concepts which could revolutionise the landscape of medical technology can – and do – find a successful route to market.

As a design engineering and development consultancy, we specialise in taking new innovations from concept to realisation. Wwe work with start-ups, blue chips and university spin-outs across multiple industries to develop and progress their ideas through flexible development programmes. These typically start with ideation workshops, developing requirements specifications and producing initial concepts which then form the foundation of the ongoing development programme. By providing our clients with either a full end-to-end or simple plug-in service, we are able to use our knowledge to streamline a client’s development pathway and maximise their chances of a successful marketable product.

Founded in 2002 by Andrew Ede and Danny Godfrey, we specialise in electronicsoftware and mechanical engineeringindustrial design, human factors, project management and quality assurance. ISO 13485 accredited, eg provide our clients with the compliance to standards for safety, quality, risk management and traceability.

“We are able to provide an integrated solution for those who require the expertise to bridge the gap between innovation and a market-ready product. Our engineers are highly skilled in taking devices from concept through to transfer to manufacture, whether the focus is microfluidics, diagnostics, surgical instrumentation or the development of a prototype to make it suitable for manufacture. We have experience across the board and know how to make things work. Beyond this, our project management team specialise in ensuring cost, turn-around-time, risk mitigation and requirements regarding sustainability are factored into every project, meaning our clients are guided and supported throughout the full development process.

“We generally work with companies who have an amazing idea for a product, but who don’t have the right internal engineering resource to make it happen. In some cases, this will be a science-led start-up, which needs engineers to complete the development programme. Sometimes it will be a multinational who are moving into an area where they don’t have the right internal experience. We are well networked with organisations in the UK, and are happy to make the right introductions to help international organisations break into the UK market.”

As a company, we actively collaborate with accelerators, incubators and MedTech organisations, supporting them with mentoring, workshops or 1-2-1 consultations. We understand the challenges that start-ups face early on their journey and are happy to provide them with advice, which will help them to bridge the gap between their innovation and a marketable product.
