Software Engineer

Medical, Biotech, Cleantech & Consumer Product Industries

eg technology is growing into one of the UK’s leading product engineering consultancies, serving the medical, biotech, cleantech & consumer product industries. We work with small, fast-growing companies as well as leading blue-chips in the UK and Europe who require a long-term relationship with an outsourced development partner.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer to join our team.

The successful candidate will have:

  • a good understanding of the principles of software engineering, including specification and validation within the full software development life-cycle
  • the ability to use common software development environments and quickly adapt to different platforms/languages
  • a good working knowledge of microcontroller programming, ideally in C/C++
  • experience of user interface design and of developing PC applications using C# and/or Java
  • the ability to communicate with colleagues, clients and suppliers
  • a logical approach to solving problems, with good numeracy skills
  • the initiative to work alone and as part of a team, with good time management
  • competency in the use of word processor, spreadsheet and email applications
  • a good honours degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar discipline

The following skills would be advantageous:

  • familiarity with ISO62304
  • familiarity with ARM based processors
  • experience of developing in WPF
  • experience of developing for Android and/or iOS

A willingness to learn and to develop new skills on the job is essential.

As a key part of the software team you will work closely with project managers and other members of multi-disciplinary teams. You will have contact with clients and suppliers and will work during the full lifecycle of projects.

Placement Student

If you are currently in the second year of your design or engineering degree and looking for an interesting, real-world, year-long work placement we want to hear from you!

eg technology provides a cost-effective engineering consultancy service to the medical, biosciences, cleantech and consumer product industries. Our aim is to design products that are not just appealing, but also practical - products that are easy to make and a pleasure to use. We are involved in all stages of the design process. The successful candidate will be involved with a wide range of disciplines from initial brainstorming through to detailed design and transfer to manufacture.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have an awareness of good engineering and design principles and an understanding of materials and manufacturing techniques
  • apply a logical approach to solve challenging problems
  • be able to communicate their ideas effectively through talking, writing, sketching and model-making
  • have experience of 3D CAD, ideally with some knowledge of SolidWorks
