EIT Health Catapult
eg technology is pleased to announce the winners of the EIT Health Catapult award for the Most Innovative Product within the MedTech category.
As a sponsor of the award, eg have offered a total of 10 days’ worth of engineering expertise, shared amongst the winning three applicants, that can be used towards the realisation of their innovation.
The first prize was awarded to Leuko, who will receive five days’ worth of engineering and development support with the eg technology engineering specialists. Leuko have created PointCheck™, a non-invasive white cell monitor, dedicated to improving quality of life and outcomes for cancer chemotherapy patients and others at risk of severe neutropenia. We will be working with Leuko to help with the development of their fast, portable and simple to use device. Their aim is that millions of immunosuppressed patients can use PointCheck™ for frequent testing, thus removing the need for a blood draw.
The runner up, receiving three days of development time with our team, was Orixha. Orixha have developed a breakthrough proprietary Total Liquid Ventilation technology to improve clinical outcomes for patients in Critical Care and Intensive Care. The Vent2Cool medical device shields the brain and heart of resuscitated cardiac arrest patients from the reperfusion-induced cytokine storm. Vent2Cool improves survival and morbidity outcomes of Post Cardiac Arrest Syndrome by inducing ultra-rapid therapeutic hypothermia, reaching 33°C within minutes versus hours with current hypothermia devices. Orixha’s proprietary Lung Conservative Liquid Ventilation technology, once validated in therapeutic hypothermia, will be developed for other Critical Care conditions such as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
Finally, in third place, receiving two days’ worth of eg technology development time, was INNITIUS – a company devoted to the development of breakthrough applications of torsional waves for women’s health. We will be working with INNITIUS on Fine Birth, the first device designed to facilitate evidence-based decision-making related to Preterm labour (PTL), differentiating between false pre-term labour and true labour events at the Point-of-Care.
